Had a pair of trekking poles snap on me mid-trail in the Smokies last month

I was about 8 miles into a 14 mile loop on the AT near Clingmans Dome when my left pole just gave out at the locking mechanism. Had to finish the hike limping along with one pole and a stick I found on the ground. Anyone else had a piece of gear fail on them in the middle of nowhere and have to MacGyver a fix?

Did you at least feel like a badass caveman dragging that stick around or was it just pure misery? I once had a tent pole snap and spent the night tied up with shoelaces and a half-eaten granola bar wrapper.
