Just hit 500 miles on my boots and the soles are still good
I bought these Salomon Quest 4D boots for a trip on the John Muir Trail three years ago. I've used them on maybe a dozen trips since, including a muddy week in the Smokies. I checked the mileage on my hiking app today and it said 503 total. I was fully ready to drop $200 on new ones this season, but the tread looks fine and there's no separation. Has anyone else gotten way more miles out of a pair than they expected? I'm wondering if I should just keep going or if that's pushing my luck.

Wow, I used to replace boots at 300 miles like clockwork. Your post makes me want to push mine a lot further.

My old Asolos made it to 700 before the stitching gave out. The midsole foam probably packed out long before you see any tread wear. Keep an eye on the ankle support feeling mushy.

Gotta admit I used to think the same as caleb - always swapped mine out around 300-400 miles just because the tread looked worn. Never even thought about the foam packing out before the rubber goes. This whole thread is making me reconsider my whole boot buying strategy honestly. Thanks for the tip on the ankle support too, thats something I definitely overlooked.
