My bear canister rolled 300 feet down a slope near Lake Tahoe and I chased it like an idiot
I set my bear canister on a flat rock outside my tent near Lake Tahoe two trips back and turned around for 10 seconds to grab my stove. A gust of wind or a loose rock sent it rolling down a steep slope for about 300 feet, bouncing off trees the whole way. Has anyone else watched their food supply turn into a runaway bowling ball, and did you actually find it or just eat cold ramen for 2 days?
Been there, watched a full can roll into a creek and still found it because the bright color gave it away at the bottom. Next time wrap a strip of duct tape around it and tie a short cord to your pack so it can't get far.
