Paid $180 for a 'waterproof' map case that leaked on day one in the Smokies

I mean, I get that gear fails sometimes, but this felt personal. Bought this fancy map case from a well known brand at an outfitter in Gatlinburg before a 4 day trip. First afternoon, light rain, opened my pack and the map was soaked. Not even a heavy storm, just drizzle. The zipper seal looked fine, no tears, nothing. I tried contacting the company and they said it's 'not rated for submersion', which, fine, but it was barely a sprinkle. Anyway, $180 down the drain, used a ziplock bag for the rest of the trip and it worked perfect. Has anyone else had a supposedly waterproof product completely fail in normal conditions? What's your backup plan for maps when tech dies?

Ugh, I gotta disagree a little here. A $180 case should handle a drizzle, no question, but honestly, waterproof ratings are a total crapshoot and people treat them like magic.
