Three years of hiking the same loop near my house and only last month did I notice the old mine entrance off the west side
I've walked the 4 mile loop at Blue Mountain Park every weekend for three years. Always stayed on the main path. Last month I took a wrong turn chasing a deer and found this rusted iron grate half hidden in brush. Looks like an old coal mine entrance from the 1900s. Now I'm wondering how many other things I've been walking past without seeing. Anyone else find something obvious on a trail they thought they knew?

Used to think I knew every inch of local trails. Man was I wrong.

Three years I've been running that ridge and never missed a thing, maybe you just don't pay attention.

Wait, you mean to tell me there's a whole mine entrance you missed that close to the trail? That's wild. I've been hiking this one trail near my place for about two years now and I walk right past this massive dead tree every time. Only last week did I notice there's a huge owl living in it. Makes me think how many other things are right there in plain sight that we just don't see.
