Vent: The trail to Lake Serene in Washington was a mess last year, but it's way better now.

I went back last week and saw they rebuilt a whole section of the path with gravel and new log steps. It took the forest service about eight months to finish the work. What's a trail near you that got a big fix recently?

Finally. The path around Echo Lake was a total mud pit for years after a big storm washed parts of it out. They just put in a bunch of new boardwalks over the worst sections last fall. It was about time, honestly. The old route was dangerous and people were making new trails all over the place to avoid it. The fix is solid, makes the whole hike way less of a slog.

Remember when I thought those boardwalks were just for looks? I got proven wrong last month. Took my dog out there after a solid week of rain, and the old mud pit spots were just... fine. Dry boots the whole way. Watched a kid on a bike actually make it through without wiping out. It just works.

Oh man, my buddy's kid tried to ride that old path last spring and came home looking like a mud monster. The new boards saved his dignity this time.
