Why does nobody talk about getting caught in a flash flood on the Grand Canyon's South Bass Trail

Ngl, I was hiking the South Bass Trail last August when a sudden storm turned a dry wash into a raging river in like 10 minutes. Had to scramble up a steep slope and wait 3 hours for the water to drop, soaked and shaking. Anyone else had a close call like that out there?

My buddy and I were out near Havasu Creek a few years back and we got caught in something similar. We were trying to cross this little stream that was maybe ankle deep when we started, and by the time we got to the middle it was up to our knees and moving fast. Lost a good hiking pole to that water, just swept it right out of my hand. We ended up having to turn back and wait for the water to drop, but it took like four hours and we were just sitting on this rock eating trail mix. Scary stuff, really makes you respect how quick those desert washes can change.

That four hour wait on a rock eating trail mix is exactly how most of life goes when you think you've got it figured out. You step into something that seems fine, and before you know it the ground shifts under you and you're just stuck waiting it out with what you've got. Isn't that just the way things work - you don't really respect the current until it's already taken something from you?
