This was at a spot on Brown Street back in 2021. Every shift, right before close, he'd have us all sit down for a slice and a soda and say it was on the house. Nice guy move, right? Except he made us punch out first and sit there for 25 minutes eating. I was 19 and didn't think twice.
A buddy who worked there with me added it up on a napkin one night. 4 shifts a week, 25 minutes each, 5 months of that. At $10 an hour that's over a grand between the two of us. He swore the meal was a perk. It wasn't a perk, it was a discount on my own paycheck.
I never said anything. I just quit a few weeks later when I found a job at a warehouse off Needmore that paid actual money. Still bugs me though. Anybody else have a boss who dressed up a pay cut as a nice gesture?
