Just found out 'Battlefield Earth' actually made over $100 million worldwide, which is wild for a movie everyone calls the worst ever.
Saw that stat on a box office site and it made me think maybe the hate is just a bandwagon thing, because that's a lot of people who paid to see it, right?

Oh man, that's a perfect example. I see this all the time where something gets labeled a total failure, but the numbers tell a different story. It's like a group opinion takes over and no one stops to check the facts. I mean, a hundred million bucks means a ton of folks went to see it, so it couldn't have been a complete disaster for everyone. Makes you wonder what else we all just agree to hate without really thinking about it.

Look at the box office for any big movie these days. A hundred million sounds like a lot, but it's not really a win if the movie cost twice that to make and market. Studios expect way more. Calling it a failure isn't just groupthink, it's basic math. People can still enjoy something that lost a ton of money. It's not that deep.

Read an article once that broke down the marketing budget for that movie. They spent a CRAZY amount on ads and getting it into theaters, so the gross isn't that shocking. A lot of that money was just from the first weekend before word got out how bad it was.
