My buddy said Batman & Robin is a toy commercial, and I finally get why that makes it good
My friend Mark came over to my place in Columbus last Friday and saw Batman & Robin sitting on my shelf, and he laughed and said it was just a 2 hour toy commercial with nipples on the suit. I'd never thought about it that way, but then I realized that's exactly why I love it, because it's a big loud cartoon that never pretends to be anything deep or serious. Does anyone else have a movie they defend not in spite of its dumb parts but because of them?
Wait, nipples on the suit? Like actual rubber nipples? That is wild and I somehow blocked that from my memory even though I saw this movie like five times as a kid. The fact that they just went for it with zero shame is kind of amazing though. You're right that it knows exactly what it is, a big dumb toy ad, and it leans all the way in. I feel the same way about the live action Scooby Doo movies, all the dumb jokes and the weird CGI are the whole point.
