My friends ragged on me for liking The Wicker Man remake

I had this group of buddies who would always trash the 2006 Wicker Man with Nicolas Cage. They'd quote the bees scene and laugh about it constantly. I decided to watch it alone one night after they left my apartment. Honestly I got sucked into the weird atmosphere and Cage's over the top performance. It's not a good movie by any means but it's entertaining as heck if you take it as a dark comedy. I told them I liked it and they looked at me like I had three heads. Has anyone else found genuine enjoyment in a movie that's supposed to be considered terrible?

Yeah the "watched it alone" part is key I think. It's wild how much other people's loud opinions can drown out your own honest reaction to something, whether it's a movie or a song or whatever. Maybe it's just me but I feel like we're all in a constant tug of war between what we actually like and what everyone around us says we're supposed to like.

Wait you actually watched it alone and liked it without the friends there to mock it first?
