Ngl I just found out Waterworld actually broke even and that blew my mind
I was reading some random movie finance blog last night and it said Waterworld cost $175 million to make but with international box office and home video it ended up making a profit. Everyone I know calls it the biggest flop ever. Made me rethink that whole movie honestly. Has anyone else dug into the numbers on a so called bomb and found out it did okay?

Wait, $176 million internationally? I had no idea it did that well overseas. @the_jason that honestly changes everything for me too. Kinda makes you wonder how many other 'flops' secretly did fine.

Right? That one caught me off guard too when I looked into it. I remember reading that the overseas gross was way bigger than people give it credit for, something like $88 million domestic but another $176 million internationally. Plus home video rentals were huge back then, like people actually rented movies from Blockbuster and that stuff added up over time. It's wild how some films just get a bad rap that never goes away.
