Okay, I'm here to defend 'Cats' 2019, specifically the part where Judi Dench breaks the fourth wall at the end.

Everyone freaks out about the CGI, but that final look she gives the camera feels like a weird, tired wink from a legend who knows exactly what she's in. Has anyone else found a moment in a hated movie that just works for them?

Yeah, that "tired wink from a legend" thing is exactly it. It's like she's looking past the whole mess and right at us. I had the same feeling with the "I'm the captain now" line from that 2013 pirate movie everyone hated. In the middle of all the noise, that one moment just landed perfectly. It was simple and the guy sold it. Sometimes an actor just punches through.

Honestly I always thought that scene was just weird. But calling it a tired wink from a legend actually makes sense to me now. It feels like she's in on the joke.
