The Lake Placid sequels actually get better after the first one

I know everyone hates on those direct-to-DVD Lake Placid sequels but I watched all 7 of them last month and something weird happened... around number 3 they just stop taking themselves seriously. The first movie was a legit horror comedy but by the time you get to the one where the croc fights a shark in space it becomes pure art. Has anyone else noticed the franchise improves when they lean fully into the ridiculous CGI instead of trying to hide it?

Yeah the "cartoon that knows it's a cartoon" thing is spot on... once you accept that's what you're watching those dumb CGI crocs just hit different. Maybe try starting with the shark one just to get in that mindset before going back to the earlier sequels.

Walked in thinking you were crazy but I watched the one where they fight in space and you might be onto something. The CGI croc has this weird charm when it's not trying to look real, like a cartoon that knows it's a cartoon. The first movie had that Robert Forster gravitas but the sequels feel more like a TNT movie on a Friday night, which is fine by me. Still wouldn't call them "good" but they're definitely entertaining in their own stupid way.
