My roommate Connor left the kitchen trashed for 9 days and I finally snapped on a Tuesday
Connor went to his parents place in Sacramento for a long weekend and left a sink full of dishes, a pot with chili crusted to the bottom, and a trash bag sitting by the door instead of in the bin. Day 4 I texted him, he said he'd handle it when he got back. Day 9, last Tuesday, I came home to a smell like wet socks and sour milk, and there were fruit flies hovering over the sink like a tiny cloud. I bagged all his stuff and stacked it on his bed with a note that just said 'your turn.' He got home Thursday and acted like I was the crazy one. Am I wrong here, or does leaving your mess for 9 days cross a line even for a friend?
That line about the fruit flies hovering "like a tiny cloud" got me because I have BEEN the Connor in this story more times than I want to admit. Back in college I left a pot of ramen on the stove so long my roommate started calling it science. She finally stacked my stuff on my bed too, and I acted hurt for like a day before I realized I was just mad at being caught. Nine days is wild though, wet socks and sour milk is a whole other level. You gave him a heads up on day four and he still rolled in like you were the problem. That note was nicer than anything I would have written, trust me.
