My roommate used my toothbrush to scrub the toilet at 2am and denied it till morning
So last Tuesday I woke up at like 2am to this weird scratching sound coming from the bathroom. I thought it was a rat or something so I cracked the door and saw my roommate Brad hunched over the toilet with MY blue toothbrush scrubbing the rim. He had this half asleep look like he was doing it on autopilot. I just stared for a second, closed the door, and went back to bed. Next morning I asked him about it and he said 'no way, that's gross, you were dreaming.' But my toothbrush was sitting on the sink still wet and there was blue bristle fuzz stuck in the toilet seal. I threw it out and bought a pack of 10 from the dollar store. Now I hide the new one in my sock drawer. Has anyone else caught a roommate doing something weird in their sleep like this or am I the only one with a toilet toothbrush story?
I actually read about this exact kind of thing in a sleep science article last year. People can do full on tasks while asleep, like cooking or cleaning, and have zero memory of it the next day. It's called sleepwalking but the article said it can get way more complex than just walking around, like your brain goes into some kind of autopilot mode. So honestly Brad might not even be lying when he says he doesn't remember. That said, the wet toothbrush and blue fuzz in the seal is hard to explain away, so he was either asleep or covering for himself. Either way I would not trust him near my stuff again, and the sock drawer move is smart. Maybe keep the bathroom door locked at night too.
