Bought a 'professional' scale from a kitchen supply website and it was off by 20 grams

I got it from BakeProDirect last month for $85, thinking it would be more reliable than my old one. Tried a batch of macarons and the shells came out completely wrong. After testing, I found it was consistently off, which explains the failure. Has anyone else had issues with scales from that site, and what brand do you trust for precise weight?

That's a huge difference for something like macarons. Did you try calibrating it with the weights it came with, or did you just test it against another scale you know is good?

My old OXO scale was off by 3 grams on a 100 gram test weight. I always trusted it for years, but @tarag28 is right, you have to check. I used the calibration weight from my new scale and the old one failed. For macaron batter, that error would totally change the texture. Now I test any scale before a big bake.

Calibration weights aren't always right either, @troy494.
