Just realized my sourdough starter was ruined by my own hand soap

Switched to a new lavender hand soap last month and couldn't figure out why my starter kept dying. Spent $12 on a different brand and now my loaves are rising fine. Has anyone else had a soap scent mess with their baking?

Blamed my tap water for weeks and almost dropped $50 on a fancy filter system before I figured out it was my new lilac dish soap. The irony is I only bought the fancy soap to make myself feel fancy while I baked. Threw that bottle in the garage and my starter bounced back in two days.

Did you try washing it out of the jars first, @elliot45? lmao I learned that one the hard way too.
