Tried the towel trick vs the ice water trick for pie dough and one was a total mess
Honestly I've been making pie dough for years and always struggled with it getting too warm and sticky. Last month I had two crusts to make for a family thing in Denver and decided to test both methods side by side. I did my usual butter crust but wrapped one disc in a damp towel in the fridge and dropped the other in a bowl of ice water for 30 minutes. The towel one came out perfect, easy to roll, flaky as could be. The ice water one was a disaster, the dough got soggy on the outside and I had to add like half a cup of extra flour just to handle it. I think the towel keeps the moisture even without soaking through. Took me 3 tries after that to get the ice water method to work at all. Anyone else tried either of these and had different results?
