Honestly, our book club in Portland read 'The Goldfinch' last month and everyone loved it except me. I found it a slog.

My wife's book club had the same split over that book. The length really tests your patience if the story doesn't grab you right away. I'm with you on this one.

Same thing with movies too honestly. Most people I know either love a slow burn or they're out the second there's not an explosion in the first ten minutes lol.

Honestly, you gotta give a big book some time to build its world. The slow start makes the payoff way better when things finally click. Tbh, if a story grabs you right away it usually burns out fast anyway. Some of the best stories take their time to really get under your skin.
