My book club spent 45 minutes arguing about whether the dog dies in the first chapter, nobody finished the book
So last Tuesday at my book club meeting in Fresno, we were supposed to talk about this novel about a family farm, and somehow we ended up in a full shouting match about whether the dog on page 12 dies or just runs away. Turns out four of the seven people never even got past chapter 3, but everyone had a strong opinion anyway. Our host Linda pulled up a wiki page on her phone to settle it and that just made it worse because the wiki spoiled the ending for the three people who were still reading. We never voted on next month's book because we ran out of time. Does your club have a rule about spoilers or do you all just wing it like we do?
Watched my buddy's club almost break up over this same thing, some lady spoiled the twist in chapter 20 and two people quit on the spot. Now they make everyone swear a blood oath about spoilers before they start talking, no joke. Linda pulling up that wiki page was a rookie move, that never ends well.
