My friend insisted our club should read 'Blood Meridian' and I thought it was a terrible idea
I argued the violence would be too much for our group, but after we finished it last month, the discussion was the best we've had in two years. She was right that the book's themes on human nature would spark real debate. Has anyone else been pushed to read a book they initially resisted that turned out great?

Totally get that, and @campbell.elliot is spot on. I've learned to just go with it when someone pushes a book on me, the worst that happens is I don't like it.

Honestly, that's a great example. Sometimes you just need that push. My buddy made me read a sci-fi book I thought I'd hate, and it totally changed my mind on the whole genre.

Yeah, that "push" is so real. It's like your brain gets stuck on one idea of what something is. My sister forced me to watch a cooking competition show, and I went in ready to hate it. Now I know way too much about baking techniques.
