Our book club almost broke up over a 14 page novella at Doreen's house in Boise
Last month Doreen picked a novella for our club, and 8 of the 12 members showed up to her place in Boise having only read the first chapter. Half the group wanted to just talk about the movie version, and Ken got so mad he walked out to the porch with his mug of decaf. We ended up voting on a new rule that night: no book under 200 pages and no picks from anyone who skipped the last meeting. Now we keep a shared doc with page counts before every vote, and meetings run about 40 minutes shorter. Any other clubs out there with a page minimum, or are we the only ones who had to make an actual rule about it?
Reminds me of when my buddy's fantasy football league had to make a rule that you can't draft a kicker in the first round. Sometimes you just gotta write it down after somebody ruins it for everyone. Ken sulking on the porch with his decaf is honestly the most book club thing I've ever heard.
