Our book club hated the ending of 'Project Hail Mary' but I think they missed the point

Everyone in my group was mad that the ending felt too neat and happy. My friend Lisa said, 'It just wrapped up too perfectly, it's not realistic.' But I went back and read the last three chapters again, and I think the whole book is about connection solving impossible problems. The 'happy' ending is earned because the main character chooses friendship over just surviving. It's not a plot shortcut, it's the whole theme! Has anyone else had to defend a book's ending that their club hated?

Totally agree with @sean_johnson16, that's the real takeaway for making it work in real life too.
