Our club voted 6 to 4 to skip a book for the first time in 3 years
Last month our club picked a 700 page novel and by week two only 3 people had cracked it open, so someone suggested we just watch the movie instead. We spent the whole meeting arguing about whether that counted as 'reading' and ended up splitting into two groups, the ones who finished it and the ones who quit. Is ditching a book mid month a normal thing for clubs, or should the picker just have to live with their choice?
Noticed this happens with everything where people feel forced to finish something just because they started it, like those gym memberships nobody uses or movie tickets for a film you hate 20 minutes in. Sometimes the group picked wrong and it's fine to just admit it instead of dragging everyone through 700 pages out of pride. Maybe the real problem is letting one person pick without the group getting a say first.
