Our library book club almost split over a 12 page short story and I'm weirdly proud of us
At the Rosewood branch meeting last Tuesday, half of us read the ending as hopeful and the other half as bleak, and we argued about it for 45 minutes past closing. The librarian finally flipped the lights on us twice before we agreed to pick a longer book next time. Has a short story ever torn your club in two like that?
That 45 minute argument over 12 pages is exactly how it goes with my neighbors debating whether a fence is 4 inches or 5 inches into their yard. Small thing, big feelings, and people care way more than they let on.
