Picking between two book club picks felt like a big choice...
Our group was split between a long historical novel and a short modern story. I pushed for the short one, thinking it would be easier for everyone. We read it in a week, but the talk only lasted about 20 minutes before we ran out of things to say. Has your group ever picked a book that just fell flat for discussion?

Ran out of things to say" is the worst. Our group once picked a thriller that was so simple everyone just agreed "yep, the butler did it" and discussion died.

We had a similar issue with a mystery that was too straightforward. Now we keep a list of open-ended questions ready, like asking what characters should have done differently. Picking books with moral gray areas or unreliable narrators tends to spark longer talks.
