Reading the last chapter first saved our book club from a 3-hour fight

Our group nearly split apart over whether the ending of The Goldfinch was hopeful or just pathetic, so I tried reading the final chapter aloud before anyone could share opinions, and now we actually talk about the whole book instead of just the last page, anyone else use that trick to keep debates civil?

Spoiling the ending early sounds like the real fight just moved to chapter one.

Ha! Honestly that's just how life works, people get so stuck on the final outcome they forget the whole journey. It's like watching a game only for the last play and then arguing who's the better team.
