Update: I finally read the book my book club hated and now I get why they hated it
Our book club picked 'The Midnight Library' by Matt Haig back in May. I loved it at first, but everyone else said it was too repetitive and forced. My friend Sarah told me to pay attention to how the main character basically learns the same lesson 15 times. I reread it last week and yeah, she was right. Has anyone else gone back to a book you defended and realized your whole group was onto something?

Nah, the repetition was the whole point - you just missed the message the first time.

Kicked myself when I reread 'The Midnight Library' and counted how many times Nora said "I want to die" and then "actually, no I don't." Felt like I was watching my own stubborn brain in action, you know? I defended that book so hard at our April meeting I almost spilled wine on Sarah's rug. My book club still hasn't let me live it down - they just smirk whenever I say I loved something now.
