Warning: I keep seeing people in my club call 'The Great Gatsby' a love story, but my professor in Chicago said it's really about class and the American Dream.

I think this matters because calling it a romance misses the whole critique of the 1920s, so what's the bigger theme we should focus on?

Your professor was right, it's about the dream failing.

Wait, he actually said that to your face in class? I had a professor who said something similar but he at least tried to sugarcoat it. Yours just straight up called it a failed dream. That's brutal for a lecture hall full of students paying tuition.

Professors can be so harsh, @derekward gets it.
