Appreciation post: that guy who told me to stop shaking hands at networking events back in 2019
I was at a tech meetup in downtown Portland around February 2019. Some older dude in a flannel just flat out refused my hand and said "we're doing fist bumps now, trust me on this." Looked like a weirdo for a few months but by April everyone was doing it. Kinda wild how fast that flipped. Anyone else get early warnings about stuff that felt dumb at first?

Yeah that foresight was honestly next level.

that foresight was honestly next level" - yeah totally agree. What worked for me was keeping a journal of my gut feelings and then checking back later to see how they played out. Like I'd write down a hunch about someone's behavior or a project timeline and compare it to what actually happened. @kimreed sticking with that practice for a few months really sharpened my instincts over time. It's wild how much your brain picks up on subconsciously.

Ha, my gut feelings journal would just be a collection of "I think this might happen" followed by "nope, definitely did not happen." I'm pretty sure my subconscious just picks up on what I had for lunch, not actual useful patterns. But hey, even my wrong hunches are entertaining to look back on, so I guess that's something.
