Appreciation post: the day I stopped apologizing for not having a 'real job' at my 20 year reunion in 2019
I was standing by the punch bowl at the high school gym in Pittsburgh when my old classmate asked what I do and I said I'm a fiber artist and she laughed out loud so I just walked away and spent the rest of the night talking to the janitor about his vintage car collection instead.

@patricia_green21 hit the nail on the head, those random conversations can be way more memorable than the planned ones. The janitor probably had better stories anyway, most folks who work behind the scenes do. Your night ended up being exactly what it needed to be, just took a different path to get there.

So you walked away from one rude person at a snack table and spent the rest of the night talking cars with a cool janitor? Sounds like a pretty good night to me, honestly.

Oh man, I totally did that once and it ended up being the best part of the whole event.
