Coworker told me my meetings were wasting everyone's time. She was right.

Last month a senior dev on my team said my daily standups were just me reading our project board out loud. She was blunt about it. I cut my updates to 90 seconds max and stopped repeating what was already in the ticket system. Now people actually ask questions instead of zoning out. Anyone else get brutal feedback that changed how you run meetings?

Had a manager once tell me my update style was like "watching someone read the phone book aloud but less exciting." That one stung but she was right too. @julia_carter70 calling it a gift is dead on, sometimes you need someone to tell you your meeting habits are actually just admin work in disguise. Got so used to filling dead air that I forgot people value concise info over hearing my voice. Now I keep it tight and actually watch people lean in instead of scroll.

I read somewhere that most people in meetings are just waiting for their turn to speak instead of actually listening lol. Your senior dev gave you a gift honestly. I had a boss once who made us time each persons update with a stopwatch because one guy would monologue for 10 minutes about stuff already in the email thread. After that rule the meetings got way more productive and people stopped bringing laptops just to zone out.
