Finally told my boss 'no' to working this Saturday

Honestly, my manager at the cafe in Madison expected me to cover a shift last minute, but I had plans with my sister for her birthday. I just said I couldn't do it, which felt huge because I've always just said yes before. Tbh, he was a bit annoyed but found someone else, and my sister was so happy I was there. Anyone else get that shaky feeling after finally setting a work boundary?

How long did it take for that shaky feeling to go away after you hung up or sent the text? It's a big step, and that nervous reaction is totally normal. The good part is it gets easier each time you do it, and you proved your time off matters just as much as work. Really glad you got to be there for your sister's birthday.

Remember when we thought that feeling meant we were fired?

Used to believe that shaky feeling meant you messed up. Then I missed my kid's first soccer game for a last minute job. The money wasn't worth seeing his face when I got home. Now I tell clients my family time is blocked off, no exceptions. The nerves go away when you remember what you're actually protecting.
