Found out my grandpa's 'lazy' lawn method is now the standard

Was digging through old photos last month and found one of my grandpa's yard from 1982. He used to let clover take over the grass and the neighbors gave him hell for it. Looked it up and now the city of Austin actually recommends clover lawns for water conservation. Struck me how the guy branded as the slob on the block was just ahead of the curve by 40 years. Anybody else got a relative who got roasted for something that turned out smart?

Wait, hold on, Austin actually recommends clover lawns now? I had no idea that was a thing. That's wild. My neighbors still give me the side-eye because I let the dandelions hang around for the bees. It's funny how the people who get labeled as lazy or messy are usually the ones who just figured out a smarter way to do things without burning themselves out. Your grandpa must have been laughing from the grave when that became city policy. Honestly, I'm more impressed that he stuck to his guns through all the neighbor drama. That takes a special kind of stubborn confidence.

Guess gramps was playing 4D chess while the rest of the block was still on checkers. Funny how the "messy" gardeners end up being the ones who actually paid attention to the soil. At this rate my dandelion patch will be city-mandated by 2030.
