Found out the average person touches their phone 2600 times a day
I read that stat in a study linked from a forum about digital habits, and it blew my mind because I thought I was bad at around 1500 taps and swipes. That means most people check their phone every 22 seconds if they're awake for 16 hours, which is kind of wild when you think about how much that disrupts real conversations. Has anyone else tried to cut that number down and actually tracked it for a week?

That 22 seconds figure really got me. I tried tracking my own phone usage a couple years ago with one of those screen time apps and I was averaging around 1,800 touches a day. I thought that was high until I saw this. Twenty two seconds means you barely have time to finish a thought before your hand is reaching for the phone again. My wife will be telling me about her day and I catch myself glancing down at the screen mid sentence. It's a hard habit to break.

Oh jennifer965, you've described my exact situation. I had to start putting my phone face down on the other side of the room when my wife talks to me. It sounds silly, but that physical distance helps break the automatic reach. Now I keep an old fashioned notepad by the couch so I can write down any random thought instead of grabbing my phone. It's not perfect, but those little tricks do help slow down the reflex.
