Hot take: I used to think paying $15 for a haircut was stupid until my barber told me I had a 'cowlick crown' and showed me how to style it.
That random comment in his chair last month changed my whole mindset about cheap cuts, so now I'm wondering who else had a service worker drop some truth that actually stuck with you?

Wait, a barber actually told you that and showed you how to style it? That's wild, I've had barbers straight up lie to me about my hair looking good just to get me out the door faster. My last cheap cut was from some guy who just buzzed everything the same length and called it a day, no advice at all. Did he pull out a mirror and walk you through the whole thing or just talk while he was cutting? I keep hearing stories like yours and it makes me wonder if I should actually pay more for a real consultation instead of just a trim.

Man, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last year. I was going to this chain place for years, getting the same boring cut because it was cheap and fast. Finally switched to a proper barbershop, paid like double what I was used to, and the guy spent a good 15 minutes just looking at my head shape and asking what I do with my hair. He didn't even start cutting until he showed me a photo on his phone of what he was aiming for. After the cut he pulled out a hand mirror and gave me a whole breakdown on how to use the blow dryer and clay product, even let me take a picture of the product bottles he recommended. Been going back to him every 6 weeks since, totally worth paying more for the advice alone.
