I spent $400 on a 'social detox' retreat that was just awkward silence

I signed up for a weekend in Sedona that promised to break the norm of constant small talk, but it was basically just 20 people refusing to speak for 48 hours. The organizers called it 'structured silence,' but honestly, it felt like a very expensive, weird camping trip where no one would tell you where the bathroom was. Has anyone else tried one of these 'anti-social' experiences and actually gotten anything out of it?

Sounds like they forgot the 'structured' part and just went with silence. Maybe the real detox was from your bank account.

Yeah, the "real detox was from your bank account" hits the nail on the head. I got burned by one of those silent retreats a few years back. My advice is to always demand a detailed hour by hour schedule before you pay a cent. If they can't provide that, it's just a fancy way of saying they're locking you in an empty room.
