I wore pajama pants to the grocery store for a week straight
So last Tuesday, my washing machine broke down and flooded the laundry room. I was down to my last clean pair of jeans and a stack of comfy pajama pants. I decided, you know what, I'm just going to wear these to the store to get detergent and parts. The first trip felt weird, like I was getting side-eye in the frozen food aisle. But nothing bad happened. So I kept doing it all week while I waited for the repair guy. By Friday, I was picking out avocados in my plaid flannels without a second thought. The funniest part was on Sunday, a cashier I see every week just smiled and said, 'Rough week, huh?' It was a small thing, but breaking that 'you must wear real pants' rule felt oddly freeing. Has anyone else done something small like this that felt like a big deal at first?

That "oddly freeing" feeling you described is basically the plot of a whole self-help book I saw at the airport.

I saw that exact book last week at the Denver airport. It was called "The Power of Zero Expectations" or something like that. The cover was bright yellow. It did make me wonder if we're all just paying for advice we already know deep down.

@sageross I just stopped reading those books and found my own way out.
