It hit me how much better holidays are without a kids table.

Oh totally! I was just reading an article about this last week that said the same thing. It pointed out that some cultures never even have a kids table, and everyone just mixes together from the start. The whole meal feels way more connected that way. It really does come down to whether the adults put in the effort to talk with everyone, no matter where they're sitting.

Wait, I don't know if it's the kids table itself that's the problem. It's more about how some families use it to just shove the kids away and ignore them. A good kids table is chaos and fun, and the adults actually come over and joke around with them. Honestly, mixing everyone together can be just as nice if the adults make an effort to include the younger ones in the talk. The real issue is when the holiday feels like two separate parties that don't mix at all. Getting rid of the table doesn't fix that if people still don't bother to connect.

See this everywhere, @benc53, like how some offices have a "fun" break room no managers ever use.
