My friend Jake told me to try grocery shopping at 2 AM to avoid people, and it was a weirdly peaceful disaster.

He swore the 24-hour store in Glendale would be empty, so I went last Tuesday. I was the only customer, but the staff were restocking everything, so I had to keep moving my cart out of the way of pallets. It was quiet, but I felt like I was in everyone's way the whole time. Has anyone else tried shopping at a truly odd hour and had it backfire?

That "weirdly peaceful disaster" line is so true. The quiet is nice, but you're basically shopping in their work zone. I tried a 3 AM trip once and ended up helping a stocker look for a spilled box of pasta because I was the only other person there.

That "weirdly peaceful disaster" sums up my buddy's 4am trip. He said the quiet was great but he got stuck in an aisle blocked by a huge delivery, so he just gave up and left. It's like you're a ghost haunting their work shift.

Yeah, it's like the world's quietest obstacle course. I've noticed a lot of "life hacks" are like that now, trading one kind of stress for another. You get the empty store but then you're dodging forklifts and feel bad for just buying milk. The solution creates a whole new, weirder problem.
