Shoutout to the guy at the grocery store who just started talking to strangers in line

I was at the Safeway on 5th yesterday and this older guy just started asking the person in front of him about their choice of cereal. No 'excuse me' or small talk lead-up, just a direct question. The whole line went quiet for a second, then the other person actually answered. I realized we're all so trained to ignore each other in public that a simple question feels like a huge break in the rules. It wasn't weird, it was kind of nice. Has anyone else seen someone just start a real conversation in a place where nobody usually talks?

Reminds me of my friend's weird bus encounter, honestly.

Saw a story online about a guy who fell asleep on the bus and woke up in the depot. Driver just forgot about him.

Read a study once about how people in big cities avoid eye contact on purpose. They called it civil inattention. We look at our phones, stare at the floor, anything to not connect. So when someone just asks about cereal, it breaks that whole silent agreement. Makes you wonder what we're all so afraid of. You ever have a stranger just talk to you like that?
