Skipped my cousin's $85 per plate wedding in Naperville and spent the night fixing my truck instead
Honestly I still feel weird about this one but it turned out fine. My cousin got married last month at this big venue in Naperville, open bar, plated dinner, whole thing, and everyone in the family was expected to go. I got the invite back in March and the number on the RSVP site was $85 a head just for the meal, plus I would have had to book a hotel because it was 4 hours away and I couldn't drive home after drinking. So I said no. My aunt called me twice about it and my mom told me I was being rude but I just couldn't swing $400 for one Saturday. Instead I stayed home and finally fixed the exhaust leak on my truck that I'd been putting off since winter, took about 3 hours and one $12 gasket. Nobody texted me during the wedding, but my cousin sent me a pic the next morning of the dessert table and said 'you missed out.' I just said congrats and left it there. Has anyone else skipped a big family thing and had it hang over them for months?
