Stumbled on a stat that only 12% of people eat alone in restaurants on purpose and not by accident
I dug into a study from a food service blog last night and found out most people think eating solo in a diner is weird, so I sat at a counter in Austin last week just to test it and got three stares but zero conversations.

Three stares but zero conversations" - I mean, is that really some kind of social failure? People look at stuff, it's what they do. I eat alone at diners all the time and literally nobody cares. The waitress asking if you're waiting for someone is just small talk, not a judgment on your life choices. Feels like people are turning a nothing burger into some big social experiment. Honestly, if getting stared at in a diner is the worst thing that happens to you that week, you're doing pretty good.

12% seems generous, last time I ate alone the waitress asked if I was waiting for someone.

Tell her you're waiting for someone who never shows up. That's the joke now, right? You're dining alone but your imaginary friend is just fashionably late.
