The car dealership waiting room trick that got me a real answer in 20 minutes

Last Tuesday I had to take my truck in for a warranty issue and the service advisor kept giving me the runaround about when parts would arrive. I was sitting in their waiting room for an hour with stale popcorn and a TV stuck on a home renovation show, getting nowhere. So I pulled out my laptop and started pretending to write down every word he said, like I was taking notes for a lawyer or something. I even asked him to spell his name and repeat the part number twice, real slow. He suddenly got super serious and went in the back, came out with a loaner car and a confirmed date three days earlier than what he'd told me before. It wasn't aggressive or rude, just acting like I was documenting everything, and it totally shifted how he treated me. Has anyone else used a fake note-taking persona to cut through customer service nonsense, or did I just stumble onto a weird superpower?

That's hilarious. Wish I'd thought of that back when I spent three hours arguing with a cable company guy who clearly had no idea what he was doing. Probably would've just made him look at me like I was crazy, though.
