The day I let a stranger cut in line and it broke my whole week
Last Tuesday at the DMV in Tacoma, this guy was clearly about to have a meltdown over his expired tabs, so I waved him ahead of me. The guy behind me muttered loud enough for everyone to hear that I was enabling bad behavior, and then the whole line started debating line-jumping ethics for 20 minutes. I didn't even need to be there, I was just renewing my registration, and I spent the next three days replaying whether I did the right thing. Has anyone else done a small polite thing and watched it turn into a public argument? What would you have done with that line?

Man, that's the thing about doing nice stuff in public. It's like opening a door for someone and suddenly everyone's got an opinion on door policy. I bet if you'd just let the guy have his meltdown, nobody would've said a word.
