Watched a guy at the library microwave aluminum foil last week and nobody said anything
I was sitting in the reading area when this dude walks up to the microwave with a burrito wrapped in foil. He just shoved it in there and hit 5 minutes. Sparks started flying and people just looked away like it was normal. The librarian had to come over and unplug the whole thing after the smoke alarm went off. Has anyone else just let people do obviously dumb stuff in public because you didn't want to be the one to say something?

My buddy Phil once watched a guy try to microwave a metal spoon in a communal break room, just sat there sipping his coffee while the guy yelled at it for not heating up. Phil said he figured the guy was an adult and would figure it out, but then sparks shot out and someone had to call maintenance to replace the whole microwave. He still says it was the most awkward ten minutes of his life because nobody wanted to be the one to say "hey dude, that's not how metal works.

Figured that librarian was tired of fixing things and just let natural consequences happen, like @the_charlie said about his buddy Phil.
