A coworker's two word note killed my six page report habit

I used to write these long status updates for the team every Friday, like 6 pages of every little task I did. Last month, my manager Tom wrote "too much" on one and slid it back to me. That was it, no meeting, no discussion. So I cut it down to one page of bullet points and the group actually reads it now. Has anyone else had a boss who fixed you with a single note instead of a sit down talk?
