Am I the only one who thinks downtown Austin is overrated?
I spent last weekend in Austin for a friend's wedding, and everyone kept hyping up the "weird" vibe. But walking down 6th Street, it just felt like overpriced bars and drunk tourists, not anything unique. Honestly, the food truck scene at South Congress was decent, but the whole city felt like a sanitized version of what it used to be. Has anyone else been let down by a place everyone swears by?

Oh man, the food truck scene on South Congress is actually mostly on South First Street now, not South Congress. But honestly I feel you on the downtown thing, it's gotten way too commercial and the real weird stuff has moved to the east side or further out. The whole "Keep Austin Weird" thing feels more like a marketing slogan than something you can actually experience walking around.

Drive south down Congress past Ben White, there's a bunch of food trucks clustered around the old El Chile building. That's where the real hidden gems are, way off the tourist path.
