Got laughed at by 3 regulars at my barber shop when I brought up politics, been biting my tongue since
Sat in the chair last Saturday in Buffalo and mentioned a city council vote, and the whole room went silent before one guy changed the subject to the Bills. Now I just nod along and keep my mouth shut, but it bugs me that I can't say anything real around people I've known for 6 years, so is there a way to bring stuff up without making it weird?
Reminds me of my uncle's poker night. Same six guys for like 15 years, then one dude brought up the school board and you could hear a pin drop. They went right back to arguing about who forgot the ice. I guess some groups just have one lane and that's it. Maybe try easing into it with something small, like a joke about potholes, and see who bites. If nobody does, you got your answer without the awkward silence.
